Sometimes your dentist will cut the gum or even the bone to get to the teeth. You should not be worried though, the wounds will be stitched and will heal within the shortest time. Sometimes he may have to stuff pads in your mouth to ensure the blood in there is soaked.
What You Should Do After Surgery
Different people respond differently to the anesthesia used. Some wake up and within the next day and are ready for work. Others suffer some pain that lasts for up to three days. Follow the instructions given and within a few weeks, your mouth will have completely healed. For fast recovery, ensure to:
- Use the cold compress method to help curb any swelling or color changes.
- Sometimes use moist heat if your jaw gets sore.
- Gently open and close your mouth to exercise the jaw.
- Drink a lot of water and other fluids.
- Start brushing your teeth after the first day. If there are any blood clots, don’t brush them off.
- Take the drugs prescribed to you.
- If the fever or swelling is too much, contact your doctor Asap.
- Don’t eat hard foods that may scratch the wounds on your mouth.
- Avoid smoking.
- Avoid drinking using a straw.
