Is the Dental Crown Procedure Painful

Mar 01, 2022

Jumping with fear when anyone mentions the term dentist is standard among most people. Unfortunately, if you have a damaged tooth impacting your eating or other activities, a dentist is the only professional who can restore it to its original condition. How the damage occurred doesn’t matter. However, if you intend to restore the tooth, you cannot avoid a visit to the dentist nearby to receive tooth Crown treatment.

If the term dentist creates fear in your mind receiving any treatment from the professional will likely induce panic and stress in you. Your anxiety will not prove helpful for your tooth, which won’t restore itself. You must schedule an appointment with an experienced dentist if you wish to have a suitable restoration to cover the damaged tooth.

When May You Need dental crowns?

A dental crown becomes necessary if you want to protect a weak tooth from breaking or keeping it together if it has already cracked. Dental crowns help restore broken or a severely worn down tooth. If you have a tooth with significant fillings but without much tooth structure, remaining dental crowns can help you cover and support it. If you have recently undergone root canal therapy, you need a dental crown to protect the treated tooth.

Besides the above, you can have dental crowns to hide severely discoloured teeth or misshapen teeth in your mouth. Crowns also help hold dental bridges and to cover dental implants. You can have a dental crown for any of the reasons mentioned above.

Why Restore a Damaged Tooth?

A damaged tooth doesn’t allow you to eat and smile comfortably and causes pain because your mouth bacteria penetrate the damages to create further complications. In addition, if you do not restore a damaged tooth, you become susceptible to needing extensive and expensive treatments from dentists that will eventually cost more than dental crowns. Therefore you must consider restoring your tooth with dental crowns to prevent unnecessary complications and expenditure.

Discomfort during the Dental Crown Procedure

The dental crown procedure isn’t similar to getting your teeth bonded and requires reshaping your tooth to accommodate the crown over it. If you make up your mind to have dental crowns over the damaged tooth, you must schedule two appointments with the dentist in Hamilton Mountain to receive a restoration of your choice.

Various materials help make dental crowns. The materials include metals, porcelain fused to metal, ceramic, and resin. How much discomfort you endure depends on the material you select for the dental crown. Metal crowns require minimal tooth structure removal and will likely not cause much pain. Unfortunately, porcelain fused to metal and ceramic crowns needs sufficient tooth structure removal, causing you discomfort before you can have them over your tooth.

Dentists are aware of the pain you will experience during the dental crown procedure. While they cannot entirely eliminate the pain, they ensure they minimize it sufficiently by providing you with local anesthesia. The thought of receiving a shot in your mouth shouldn’t scare you either because dentists numb your gums with a topical anesthetic before giving you the shot. The tooth reshaping starts after it is entirely numb.

After completing the tooth reshaping, the dentist impressions your tooth before giving you a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth. You must wear the temporary restoration for about three weeks until your permanent restoration is ready from the dental lab.

Dental Crown Placement

You must revisit the dentist after three weeks for dental Crown placement when they remove the temporary crowns after giving you local anesthesia. First, the dentist checks the permanent crown for colour and fit to ensure it is acceptable. If everything is fine, the dentist uses special dental cement to bond the permanent restoration over your tooth to complete the dental Crown treatment.

Crown after the Treatment

When you have a dental crown over your damaged tooth, it helps restore the functionality of your tooth and your aesthetic appearance. You may experience some sensitivity after dental Crown treatment as the anesthesia begins wearing off. However, dentists advise that you take over-the-counter painkillers to overcome the discomfort and avoid biting with the treated tooth immediately after undergoing the treatment.

Dental crowns don’t need any special care besides maintaining excellent dental hygiene and scheduling regular visits To Monarch Dentistry — Hamilton Mountain for six-monthly exams and cleanings. If you care for your restorations appropriately, expect them to remain in your mouth for over five to ten years.

Patient

I’d like to start off by thanking everyone at Monarch for their help and support throughout this process. I recently had some teeth extracted for the first time ever and I couldn’t be happier with the care that I have received. From the very first call, right to the very end, the staff and doctor that took care of me were fantastic. Amazing customer service and patient care. I would definitely recommend Monarch Dentistry.

Monarch Dentistry is the best place to get your teeth checked. Trust me. I’ve been to over 476 locations in the GTA and every time I come back here. The following days after I cleaned my coworkers had to put sunglasses on because of my teeth. So, I try not to speak much. Anyway, good service, quality cleaning and great staff. 10/10 recommend.

I've been a patient for at least 10 years. It's always easy to get an appointment and I've brought my whole family here. I appreciate talking about procedures first before committing to it, and that's something every dentist can improve in. So, thank you for doing that with me.

Brought my kids here today. They were very happy with their hygienist; Drew. My almost 3 years old daughter is not scared despite it's her first visit with the dentist because Drew made her comfortable and entertained her. My son is very happy as well when asked how is his experience. The front desk is amazing as well and the dentist.

I am coming here for more than 5 years for myself and my whole family, I love their services and the vibe here. Even though I moved to North York and I have dentist’s office attached to my building and right beside my building, I am still continuing to come here. I don't need to experiment any other place, I am set for life, as long as I live in GTA. Thank you, all the staff members and dentists, here.
